About The Position

The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for over sixty years. GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo and manages over 400 acres of public parkland, including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special-purpose parks, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and various other recreational facilities. The District is governed by a five-member Board of Directors and operates with 30+ full-time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees. This position is responsible for assisting in planning and coordinating programs, registering participants, recruiting and training staff, and assisting in the preparation of promotional material and marketing special events.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
  • Two (2) to three (3) years' experience planning recreation programs and in customer service
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse populations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and resolve customer concerns with tact, sound judgment, and professionalism.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, promotion, and implementation of recreation programs, community events, and special events across multiple GVRD facilities and park locations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for participants, contract instructors, community partners, and the general public; provide exceptional customer service and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support the successful delivery of programs by monitoring activities, ensuring compliance with District policies, and helping resolve participant concerns effectively.
  • Maintain accurate and organized program records, including participant rosters, attendance tracking, incident reports, instructor application and documents, and program evaluations.
  • Process registrations, payments, and prepare deposits in accordance with District financial procedures, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Represent the District at outreach events, community meetings, and public functions to promote programs and services and strengthen community engagement.
