About The Position

Join the Memphis Grizzlies as the Assistant Controller, responsible for managing the daily operations of the accounting team. This role manages core accounting activities, supports basketball and business operations, and provides financial insight that helps senior leaders make informed decisions. You will connect with teams across the organization and engage with league finance partners to improve workflows and support shared financial goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • CPA designation.
  • Four to five years’ accounting/auditing experience.
  • At least two years of experience leading Finance or Accounting teams.
  • Advanced Microsoft 365 proficiency, including Excel.
  • Experienced user of ERP / Accounting systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar.
  • Superior attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively and collaboratively with non-financial colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology and automation to enhance reporting and maximize efficiency.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays when needed.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously while handling conflicting deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Public accounting experience preferably with a Big4 or regional firm.
  • Professional sports industry finance/accounting experience.
  • Experience with AI accounting solutions.
  • Experience in implementing ERP and ancillary financial systems.
  • Experience with PowerBI

Responsibilities

  • Manages general accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, etc.
  • Reviews and approves monthly reconciliations.
  • Ensures adherence to GAAP.
  • Oversees revenue recognition and invoicing of corporate sponsor contracts.
  • Manages monthly financial close process.
  • Prepares quarterly and year-end financial statements, footnotes, and analytical reviews for parent company and subsidiaries.
  • Manages the annual financial statement audit.
  • Maintains appropriate internal controls and suggests remediation as needed.
  • Assists in automation initiatives/projects of daily operations.
  • Assists with preparation of NBA league reporting and related audits.
  • Manages accounting software (fiscal and calendar year-end procedures).
  • Provides consultative support to the annual budget process and quarterly forecasts.
  • Provides financial support to departments, as required.
  • Oversees reconciliations of complex balance sheet accounts.
  • Hires, coaches, mentors and supervises accounting staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
