About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno Foundation is seeking an Assistant Controller to report to the Controller, Foundation. The Assistant Controller supports the financial management and oversight of nearly 3,800 Foundation funds, including approximately 1,100 endowment funds totaling more than $400 million. Working under the direction of the Controller, the Assistant Controller performs and reviews a variety of accounting and financial management functions to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the Foundation’s financial records within a nonprofit fund accounting environment. Responsibilities include overseeing and performing bank, investment, gift, and expense reconciliations; supporting monthly and year-end close processes; and coordinating with gift processing staff to ensure monthly gift activity is completed and recorded accurately. The position prepares Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB) files for Workday uploads and collaborates with the University Controller’s Office to support financial reporting and compliance with applicable accounting standards and Nevada System of Higher Education requirements. The Assistant Controller also assists with audit preparation and provides training, guidance, and functional oversight to Senior Accountants and Accounting Technicians while helping maintain strong internal controls and sound financial management practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience OR Master’s Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience.
  • Related Experience: Progressively responsible experience in accounting or financial management roles.
  • Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA (preferred)
  • Governmental or nonprofit fund accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting audits and preparing schedules for external auditors is strongly preferred.
  • Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements in accordance with GASB standards.
  • Experience working with restricted funds, endowments, or donor-designated funds.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
