About The Position

The Chemistry Department at Worcester State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2026 with a focus on inorganic chemistry. Though all areas of inorganic chemistry will be considered, research focused on biological/bioinorganic, materials, polymers, and/or electrochemistry will be given preference. Previous teaching experience at any level and/or industrial experience are a plus, but not required. The WSU Chemistry Department is focused on green chemistry, and we value faculty who incorporate sustainability and environmental responsibility into their teaching and research. We are particularly interested in candidates whose backgrounds and experiences reflect those of our student body and who are committed to inclusive excellence and fostering a welcoming, supportive learning environment for all students. Teaching responsibilities will include general chemistry and/or non-majors General, organic and biochemistry, organic chemistry, and upper-level course(s) in the candidate's area of expertise. We also offer a Master's program in Biotechnology, and the successful candidate could teach graduate-level courses. A typical workload is two lecture sections and two or three laboratory sections per semester. Faculty are expected to sponsor undergraduate research, which is a cornerstone of the student experience in our department. The department offers small class sizes (capped at 32), strong student-faculty interactions, and a supportive, collaborative environment that encourages teaching and scholarship. Faculty members are actively engaged in mentoring students and conducting research that often leads to student co-authored publications and presentations. Worcester State has made significant recent investments in research instrumentation, and our facilities include CEM-Microwave reactor, LC-MS, ICP-OES, 60 MHz broadband benchtop NMR, and FPLC, which support a wide range of faculty and student projects. We are always looking to expand our offerings to meet student and faculty research needs with success in securing internal and external funding to make such purchases. As part of the application process, candidates must submit a Statement of Teaching Philosophy and a Statement of Research Plans. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring, and to the values of public, liberal arts higher education. They should also show evidence of scholarly activity and the ability to contribute to a multicultural academic community that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
