About The Position

The Michele Bowman Underwood Department of Modern Languages and Literatures in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami invites applications for an open rank, tenure-track or tenure-eligible position in French and/or Spanish with a specialization in the Digital Humanities (DH), to begin August 15, 2026. We seek a dynamic scholar whose research and teaching integrate the study of French- and/or Spanish-language cultures with digital theories, methodologies, and tools. Candidates should engage in data-driven, computational, and/or pluridisciplinary approaches to cultural, literary, or visual analysis. Other research areas of interest include cultural analytics, artificial intelligence, and related fields. The successful candidate will engage with the redesign and expansion of undergraduate studies in DH within Modern Languages and Literatures and the College of Arts and Sciences. While the search is open rank, preference will be given to candidates who would be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor or early Associate Professor. The area of specialization is open, but we particularly encourage applications from: French: Candidates whose research centers on modern and contemporary France (19th-21st centuries), especially those exploring intersections of media, politics, the arts (including visual arts, film, literature, etc.), and digital culture. Spanish: Candidates exploring the intersection of language, politics, media, and digital culture in the early modern, modern, and/or contemporary Spanish-speaking world (Latin America, Caribbean, Peninsular Studies). Applicants whose work bridges languages, regions, or disciplines - such as comparative media studies, visual culture, or global DH - are especially welcome. The University of Miami is a vibrant research institution located at the crossroads of the Americas. Its multilingual environment fosters innovative, interdisciplinary scholarship in the humanities. The Michele Bowman Underwood Department of Modern Languages and Literatures is home to active programs across ten languages and a multilingual, interdisciplinary PhD program in Literary, Cultural, and Linguistic Studies.
