Successful candidates will join an enthusiastic, cohesive, and patient-care oriented Medical Imaging team that is looking to expand and is currently composed of two experienced ACVR board-certified radiologists, a PhD MRI research scientist, a medical imaging supervisor, eight dedicated imaging technicians (including two MRI technologists), and a PACS administrator. Position: The UMN is offering an outstanding opportunity for full or part time faculty positions in Medical Imaging at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Preference will be given for a full-time vs. part-time position. Position Description: Successful candidates will work with the Medical Imaging team to advance exceptional clinical care, teaching, and research. Responsibilities upon hire will include: clinical service of small and large animal diagnostic radiology and contrast procedures, small animal ultrasonography, CT, MRI, nuclear scintigraphy, and consultations to clinical faculty and house officers; clinical instruction to interns, residents, and professional students; and personal development and discipline/non-discipline related service to the UMN-CVM and other professional organizations. The percentage of time allocated for clinical service, teaching, and research is negotiable depending on the candidate's professional goals and experience. The option to participate in teleradiology consulting is negotiable. Clinical Opportunities: The UMN Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) is a tertiary referral service hospital with specialists in most disciplines. The VMC is one of the nation's most prominent academic veterinary centers serving the Midwestern States and Central Canada. Clinicians provide top-tier innovative care advancing the fields of radiation and medical oncology, neurology, interventional radiology, interventional cardiology, surgery, internal medicine, and other areas of veterinary medicine. Clinical collaborations with specialists from the School of Medicine and associated medical centers are common. The hospital is well-equipped state-of-the-art imaging equipment, including: â Siemens Prisma 3T MRI system with full advanced imaging and research capabilities â Siemens Drive dual-source 128-slice CT with cardiac gating â Two Samsung RS80A and one RS85 Prestige ultrasound units â Vet Ray and Philips DR and Kodak CR â Philips ProxiDiagnost N90 digital fluoroscopy â NuCam gamma camera with Mirage software Additionally, the equine center is equipped with: â Hallmarq Standing Equine MRI â Asto Equina Standing CT â Eklin and VetRocket DR PET-CT is available at the nearby on-campus Center for Clinical Imaging Research. The diagnostic radiology aspects have been structured around Carestream PACS, which is fully integrated with Nuance PowerScribe 360 speech recognition capabilities. Research Opportunities: Successful applicants will have the opportunity to participate in independent and/or collaborative research that advances basic, translational, and/or clinical medical imaging and its applications. The UMN Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) recently installed a state-of-the-art Siemens Prisma 3T MRI scanner with full research and advanced imaging capabilities. This system allows investigators to leverage the strengths of the UMN Center for Magnetic Resonance Research, one of the top MRI research centers in the world. Our Medical Imaging team includes a faculty MRI research scientist whose Comparative MRI Research Lab provides opportunities for MRI research collaboration and training. The VMC also recently installed a state-of-the-art dual-source Siemens Drive CT scanner. This system will advance collaborative research in cardiology and radiation oncology. Other new, major research equipment in the VMC includes an interventional radiology suite and a Varian Edge linear accelerator. The VMC has also invested in ultrasound equipment with elastography, contrast ultrasound, and image fusion capabilities. These major investments in research infrastructure have been supported by the CVM, Medical School, and the Office for Vice President of Research, with the goal of advancing comparative research to benefit both animals and people. Imaging of animals at the VMC and other sites on campus is facilitated by the Clinical Investigation Center (CIC) and Research Animal Resources (RAR). CIC supports preclinical and clinical imaging studies with technical infrastructure, budgeting assistance, and study coordination according to GCP and GLP guidelines. RAR provides support for laboratory animal research, including rodent studies. There are numerous opportunities for cooperative, team science-based research at the UMN outside the CVM, including the Department of Radiology, Department of Neurology, Department of Radiation Oncology, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Center for Magnetic Resonance Research, and Masonic Cancer Center. Numerous intramural and extramural funding opportunities are available, including (but not limited to) the Comparative Medicine Signature Program, CVM Resident and Graduate Student Grants program, Masonic Cancer Center funding opportunities, Clinical and Translational Science Institute K and R Scholar Development Grants, MnDRIVE program, and UMN-Mayo Clinic Partnership Program. The CVM has pre-award grant specialists to help you prepare and submit grant applications. Teaching Opportunities & Professional Development: Faculty are expected to participate in teaching and/or mentoring activities for interns, residents, DVM, and graduate students. Support and instruction for teaching is provided by the CVM Academic and Student Affairs Office and the Center for Educational Innovation (including the Early Career Teaching and Learning Program). For faculty with a focus on teaching, there are several applied research opportunities in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) that aid in assessing the impact of new and innovative teaching practices.
