About The Position

The Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine has one Small Animal Community Veterinary Services (Primary Care service) faculty position available at the Clinical Instructor, Assistant, Associate or Full Clinical Professor level (Clinical Track). New faculty members will join two other full-time and three part-time faculty members, all experienced general practitioners, in the Community Veterinary Service clinical service and student rotation. Teaching responsibilities will involve didactic and clinical training for veterinary professional students, house officers, graduate students, and veterinary medical technology students enrolled in the academic program. Candidates should be proficient in general veterinary care of medical and surgical patients as well as providing service to clients. The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with the teams within the Animal Health Center and College of Veterinary Medicine. The successful candidate is expected to provide leadership to continually improve the quality of the Community Veterinary Service clinical service and rotation. Mentoring students, house officers, and junior faculty will be an expectation. Participation in clinical or educational research and continuing education programs is also expected.

Requirements

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Ability to obtain licensure in Mississippi
  • Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service
  • Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students

  • Experience or interest in rural veterinary practice
  • Understanding of the Spectrum of Care options available for small animal practitioners
  • Experience in large, multi-doctor veterinary hospitals
