About The Position

Teacher Education Department seeks to broaden and enhance teacher education at the undergraduate and graduate level through the hiring of an assistant clinical professor of special education. This faculty member will be responsible for the supervision and support of special education teacher candidates during the internship. Clinical faculty work on a team to ensure consistency for candidates. Duties include conducting seminars to support candidate growth and development, completing formal and informal observations and providing timely feedback, evaluating candidate performance, and providing other supports as needed. Duties also include developing and supporting school partnerships, with potential for teaching traditional and/or virtual courses in teacher education as needed. Clinical faculty have service responsibilities to the university, school, and department and are expected to attend meetings, serve on committees, advise students, and participate in campus events.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in special education or related field
  • Minimum 5 years PK-12 teaching experience
  • Experience supervising and/or coaching preservice and/or in-service teachers
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • An openness to incorporate high-impact teaching practices such as service learning and action research
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively to a team

Nice To Haves

  • Terminal degree in education/special education
  • Higher education teaching experience, including teaching in a virtual environment
  • Experience working in culturally and linguistically diverse school contexts
  • Experience in early childhood education
  • Experience supporting teacher candidates through edTPA and other licensure exams
  • Experience developing and maintaining school-university partnerships
  • Familiarity with Maryland State teaching regulations and requirements
