About The Position

The Asset Management Technical Trainer is an integral part of NYPA’s ISO 55001 Asset Management program, developing, updating, reviewing and teaching NYPA’s Asset Management processes, procedures and work management practices. The position will work closely with personnel from Strategic Operations, site Asset Performance Management and site Maintenance and Engineering to train and develop staff on all levels of NYPA Asset Management Program from AM Governance and Strategic Planning to specific Asset Maintenance Manual Planning and Scheduling processes.  The Asset Management Technical Trainer will lead and manage the training programs associated with NYPA’s core AM software applications, including, but not limited to, MAS, GIS, and MS Project.  The AM Technical Trainer will manage AM certification programs including IAM certification, planner certification, and others.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of generation and transmission plant components and operating principles to include all plant specific equipment for the applicable craft. Working knowledge of components specific to other crafts.
  • Advanced knowledge of utility industry best practices and protocols as it relates to the specific craft, to include safety practices.
  • Ability to objectively observe, evaluate, and document apprentice performance in the classroom and the field and provide feedback as necessary to facilitate improvement.
  • Ability to effectively implement ADDIE or SAT models to learners at various levels in the organization.
  • Ability to consult with leadership and committees regarding operations/maintenance policies and how they are applied in the plant.
  • Ability to lead and influence teams or cross-functional groups.
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule multiple task assignments to include daily/monthly/annual work routine, future planning, and cross functional activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree,  state certified  apprenticeship program or minimum of 6 years of commercial or military power/generation experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and evaluate apprentice performance through life cycle of program – to include blue book tracking and approval, LMS configuration change requirements, reporting, and DOL audit support.
  • Design, develop, and deliver classroom training for operations and maintenance personnel at any level, including support for online training.
  • Manage apprentice and craft program content and processes to meet DOL requirements and any applicable safety/regulatory requirements.
  • Document the sequence of operations of key plant systems and equipment in various modes of operation.
  • Consult with engineering and operations/maintenance on new or updated plant systems and equipment.
  • Remain current on NYPA operating procedures to train apprentices to react to abnormal and emergent scenarios.
  • Support program managers in new technical areas and programs.
  • Be cognizant of current NYPA safety practices for applicable craft and how they are applied in the field.
