About The Position

The Small Business Technical Assistance (SBTA) and the Individual Development Account (IDA) programs provide services in Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas Counties to small business owners and or startups. Assist participants with technical assistance and problem-solving skills to access available resources and/or to accomplish their business goals. Provide financial education and specific training for education, home ownership, asset-owned vehicles, and small businesses. The Asset Building Specialist works with the Small Business Technical Assistance (SBTA) and/or Individual Development Accounts (IDA) programs. Provides expert assistance and support to clients, addressing their needs, resolving issues, and ensuring high-quality service delivery in areas like finance, accounting, and business operations. Responsible for organizing and leading the internal and external program activities and basic project management activities.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance and have full use of an automobile during work hours.
  • English fluency required, bilingual preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with Small Business Technical Assistance and/or Individual Development Accounts programs.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel and online platforms.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management staff, other employees, participants and people from external organizations.
  • Familiarity with business resources and programs for referral and/or connections such as business registration, certifications, financial education, matching funds services, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent field, or equivalent work experience required.
  • Experience working with the business community.
  • Must be familiar with service providers involved in business departmental services, lending, banking, social services, and/or childcare provider training and businesses.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including listening ability, problem-solving skills, and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to work well in team setting, as well as independently; ability to be flexible and adapt well to different dynamics in a fast-paced work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to program, agency and federal legal policies on client confidentiality.
  • Provide comprehensive, community-aware approach, and linguistically business coaching and business Technical Assistance (TA) to clients.
  • Business coaching and business technical assistance services include support around market analysis, business plan and business development, business registration and licenses, childcare business and general businesses, business relief grant application, retail space, leasing, professional referrals, matching funds for business, education, and/or emergency services, etc.
  • Serve as a business liaison for clients and service providers.
  • Provides interpretation and translation as able and as needed.
  • Protect clients’ privacy and follow agency and funder confidentiality policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date client records in case files, in IRCO’s database, and/or in any funder-required client and reporting databases.
  • Engage in outreach and community engagement activities.
  • Attend and complete the training as required (e.g., some training might require certifications).
  • Organize activities according to an agreed upon plan with their supervisor.
  • Facilitate program referral and activities.
  • Assist clients providing transportation services (e.g., for opening their bank accounts, bank accounts closures, vehicle purchase, etc.)
  • Participate in outreach and educational activities in communities, attend meetings and conferences.
  • Stay involved with community gatherings to promote the program services and to recruit new and eligible clients for the program services.
  • Assist clients to study the training materials provided prior to attending the scheduled training together with clients.
  • Conduct financial education classes.
  • Availability to work occasional evening and weekend hours.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
