About The Position

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: PROVISIONAL (TPV) This is not a permanent appointment. A provisional appointee must participate and be successful in a Civil Service Examination process for this classification and be selected through an open competitive process in order to be considered for a permanent appointment. Night shift (General working hours: 11 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.). Role description Under supervision, the Asphalt Finisher spreads, rakes and finishes asphalt mixtures in connection with street maintenance and repair projects. Responsibilities include: operating asphalt kettle and tool heather; assisting in the clean-up of job site after asphaltic repairs; setting up job-sites in a safe manner; and performing related duties as required.

Requirements

Education: None
Experience: Two (2) years of verifiable experience in street paving and repair work as an asphalt worker.
License and Certification: Possession of a valid California Driver's License

Responsibilities

Spreads and rakes asphaltic mixtures
Irons asphalt to obtain a compact and smooth surface.
Clean cut-outs and prepares sub-grades before paving
Assists in clean-up of job site after asphaltic repairs
Sets up job site (including cones, barricades, high-rises and signs) in a safe manner
Completes standard job reports
May operate the screed on an asphalt paver
Will be the grounds person on asphalt milling machine
May operate asphalt kettle and tool heater
Drives a vehicle to work sites.
