About The Position

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced ASO I/II Orientation Coordinator at its Detroit campus location. The Office of New Student Orientation seeks a dynamic and committed professional to assist the Associate Director of New Student Orientation with the planning and execution of orientation programs that support the transition of first year and transfer students, as well as family members and other guests to the University. Using assessment data, this professional will differentiate the needs of incoming students and assist them with connecting to specific student service offices that support their success at Wayne State University.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, liberal arts, or a related field is required for ASO I
  • Master's degree in student personnel services, higher education administration, communication, or related field is required for ASO II.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing/coordinating events and programs is preferred.
  • Experience in college admissions and/or enrollment also preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and execution of new student orientation programs and other programs which support the transition of students into college, including parent and family orientation and overnight orientation programming.
  • Assist the Associate Director in the selection and training of approximately 25 student orientation leaders. Serve as the primary supervisor to student staff.
  • Attend all orientation sessions to oversee activities and ensure details are handled as planned.
  • Work with various student success departments coordinating special projects such as pre- and post-orientation activities, Fall Opening activities, assessment tools and instruments, and first semester support.
  • Collaborate with various departments and organizations within the University and surrounding Detroit area.
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end reports, providing analysis and recommendations for future actions and improvements.
  • Serve on university committees as assigned.
  • Position requires incumbent to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
