Job Description: Job Family Definition: HPE is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the ASIC Firmware and Diagnostics team for the HPE Slingshot product line . HPE Slingshot is a modern high-performance interconnect for HPC and AI clusters that delivers industry leading performance, bandwidth, and low latency for HPC, AI/ML, and data analytics applications. Including multiple generations of both air and fully liquid cooled switch and NIC products, it serves as the interconnect of choice for the worlds faster supercomputers, including the top three systems on the top500.org list. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading teams that have developed firmware and diagnostic tools for high performance networking products. This position will have the opportunity to be involved in program planning, execution, and status tracking of multiple concurrent products. They will represent the ASIC Firmware and Diagnostics team in cross functional discussions with the ASIC team (Arch, LD, DV, SV), board engineering, software, and product solutions teams. This position will focus on providing management oversight but also have the opportunity to contribute directly to deep technical discussions and code submissions/reviews if desired. Management Level Definition: Applies expert subject matter knowledge to manage staff activities in solving most complex business/technical issues within established policies. Manages activities of exempt individual contributors. Has accountability for supporting currently deployed products as well as next generations development efforts, with significant impact on business unit results and organizational strategy. Acts as a key advisor to senior management on the development of overall policies and long-term goals of the organization. Plans, manages, and monitors high-end operational/tactical activities of Staff. Recruits and supports development of direct staff members. Position typically reports to Director or above. Location: Prefer hybrid attendence at HPE site. Fully remote employment negotiable for US based candidates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Typically 10 or more years of related work experience, including 5 or more years of people management experience.
  • Experience delivering firmware for Infiniband, OmniPath, Ethernet, UEC, or other high bandwidth, low latency interconnects.
  • Experience configuring high speed long reach or die to die SERDES. (100G+, PAM4)
  • Experience using or supporting Cadence's Palladium Emulation environment.
  • Continuous integration / continuous test process to ensure quality.
  • Advanced leadership skills, including coaching, career, teambuilding, conflict resolution, and management.
  • Advanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a geographically distributed team of technical engineers responsible for developing next generation ASIC firmware and diagnostics.
  • Maintain ASIC firmware and diagnostic tools for existing product generations.
  • Collaborate with Product and ASIC teams on overall program schedule creation.
  • Participate in architecture, design, pre-silicon verification and post silicon validation reviews.
  • Collaborate with Board Engineering to define components to be used in the design.
  • Agile development process to ensure critical features are supported when required for the boards and ASICs (Scrum, Kanban, standups, etc)
  • Engage with program managers, marketing, supply chain, technical leaders and executives to communicate Firmware and Diagnostic program status, escalate issues, resolve customer failures and guide and influence strategic decision-making.
  • Set & measure performance plans, goal setting, coaching, career development, and total rewards administration to create a high performance team.
