About The Position

Overview Princeton University’s newly created Office of Innovation (OI) seeks a Research Translation Associate to coordinate Princeton’s involvement in the National Science Foundation (NSF) Accelerating Research Translation (ART) program as a mentor institution. The Translation Associate will coordinate with and support other programs within OI, such as the I-Corps and NSF Engines programs, as well as other state and federal programs. Focused on accelerating research translation, these programs increase the pace and scale of advancing discoveries and deploying them as tangible solutions for the benefit of society. This role assists the program’s leadership in building capacity and infrastructure for translational research within these programs, enhancing Princeton’s role in regional innovation ecosystems, and training graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to become entrepreneurs or pursue use-inspired or translational research careers in the public or private sector. This is a 2-year term position, with the possibility of extension.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree, with 2-4 years of experience in academic research, intellectual property, and their translation into practical applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in data collection, management, evaluation, and sharing, with demonstrated proficiency in leveraging customer relationship management (CRM) systems and data management systems to accomplish organizational and programmatic objectives.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, as the responsibilities of the position may require travel as well as participation in weekend and evening events.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of the principles of translational research, entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education, and innovation ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with NSF funding mechanisms and requirements is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Princeton University’s mentorship of ART projects at NJIT and the University of Delaware, ensuring effective collaboration, knowledge transfer, and sharing of best practices.
  • Serve as a liaison between Princeton and other Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs), fostering a strong sense of community and collaboration and sharing best practices for building translational research infrastructure.
  • Manage relationships with other campus partners to develop and maintain partnerships with industry, government, and other stakeholders to enhance the impact and reach of Princeton’s translational research initiatives.
  • Liaise with internal and external partners to provide educational and training opportunities to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, promoting careers in entrepreneurship and/or use-inspired and translational research in the public and private sectors.
  • Support the development of OI activities, initiatives, and programming that build and strengthen sustainable institutional infrastructure for research translation at Princeton.
  • Manage relationships with other campus partners to develop and maintain partnerships with industry, government, and other stakeholders to enhance the impact and reach of Princeton’s translational research initiatives.
  • Coordinate with other campus departments and offices to identify and support specific translational research activities at Princeton with immediate and tangible potential for economic and societal impact.
  • Assist the Assistant Director for Grants and Finance Administration with the preparation of program budgets, timelines, and reports in a timely and comprehensive manner, following requirements in accordance with NSF and Princeton guidelines.
