About The Position

Under general supervision assists with community art programming and events. The Art Assistant will work alongside instructors, assist with class preparation and cleanup, engage with program participants of all ages, assist with event planning and preparation, and lead guided art instruction for small class sizes and groups by performing the following duties. All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County. Essential Job Functions Assist art instructors in preparing materials and supplies for classes, workshops, and events. Aide and implement art instruction within Tulsa County Community Centers. Support set up and takedown of art program spaces (tables, chairs, easels, cleaning stations, etc.). Engage with children, teens, and adults in a friendly and encouraging manner. Assist with supervising children and adults in the arts programs. Assist in creating and designing an artistic space for future classroom instruction. Ensure the cleanliness and organization of studio and storage areas. Promote safety and monitor participants during art activities. Assist with planning, organizing, and setting up community events. Help manage student behavior and maintain a safe and positive learning environment. Assist in managing, ordering, and maintaining art inventory. Perform other duties as assigned by the Art Program Coordinator or Recreation staff. Computer Skills Basic Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and internet applications. Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory responsibilities. Education and/or Experience Education is equivalent to graduation from a four-year high school with a diploma or GED (General Education Degree) and be at least eighteen years of age. Language Skills Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License possessed for at least 6 months Defensive Driving with Tulsa County within 6 months of hired CPR/First Adi certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire) Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
