About The Position

Reporting to the Vice President of Camp & Club Operations, the Area Director is responsible for the management of multiple Club sites. Provides leadership and direction regarding general operations, financial and budget planning, staffing, program delivery, program quality, safety, Club management, and member recruitment. Responsible for guiding data-informed decision-making, impact assessments, and site-specific plans for improvement alongside other agency leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • Wisconsin Child Care Administrator Credential or must complete the credential within six (6) months of hire.
  • At least five (5) years of public or non-profit management experience, including responsibility for site management and supervision of staff.
  • Knowledge and expertise in youth development program philosophy and practice, with an orientation to youth-guided and culturally relevant services.
  • Proven experience in motivating and achieving goals through others, including teammates and peers.
  • Strong leadership ability, including coaching and building a culture of accountability. Ability to develop other leaders.
  • Strong budget creation and management skills and the ability to develop accurate projections that include fiscal and programmatic benchmarks.
  • High level of creativity and problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated examples of managing through crises, producing quality improvements, and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • High level of computer literacy and ability to utilize Canvas, Word, Excel, and other applications effectively for needed analysis and planning.
  • Ability to create and maintain high-level community profile.
  • Proven ability to gain support and respect from peers and colleagues and interact effectively with individual stakeholders in various roles.
  • Must have a valid WI driver’s license, good driving record, and meets state-required automobile insurance minimums.

Responsibilities

  • Direct achievement of area goals for Average Daily Attendance, membership, Frequency of Attendance, program participation, Wisconsin Shares, and other goals as assigned.
  • Evaluate clubs’ operational effectiveness based on participation and achievement of stated goals; recommend modifications to improve the club’s operations performance, such as a member recruitment and retention strategy.
  • Guide Club Managers to remove barriers to member access, including but not limited to physical and emotional safety and transportation, and to create a welcoming environment.
  • Ensure relevant, need-based, and developmentally appropriate programs are delivered effectively across all Club locations in the area in accordance with grant and agency requirements.
  • Work with Programs team leaders and the Director of Business Operations to ensure programs are fully implemented and delivered with fidelity and quality via the Continuous Quality Improvement process according to the agency goal of Optimal Club Experience.
  • Collaborate with other Area Directors and Program Directors to evaluate and develop strategies and systems to support the Club in delivering programs and services.
  • Maintain a high level of community visibility to build relationships and make connections that support the overall agency goals.

  • Inspire people to help ensure unlimited possibilities for all youth through courage, authenticity, service, truthfulness, love, and effectiveness.
  • Ensure Clubs are inclusive, welcoming, respectful, and responsive to the diversity of our employees, members, communities, and families.
  • Manage the performance of assigned Club Managers. Demonstrate best practices in program design, fund development, community relations, and operations.
  • Working in partnership with Club training staff, develop and schedule training opportunities for required skills, safety, compliance, and personal and organizational advancement.
  • Partner with the Family Resource Center to meet annual WI Shares funding goals for the area.
  • Develop annual Club budgets with Club Managers.
  • Represent area in agency budget development with the Vice President of Camp & Club Operations and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Monitor monthly budget reports for all sites within the area, taking corrective action upon discovering a revenue or expense variance.
  • Support the organization’s fundraising efforts and assist with site visits, donor calls, and other fundraising elements as requested and appropriate.
  • Collaborate on development and government grant proposals. In collaboration with the Data & Analysis team, provide outcome reports to Development and Government Affairs teams as requested.
  • Accountable for the area’s adherence to all agency policies and procedures in safety, crisis management, professional ethics, and employee conduct found in the BGCGM Member Care Manual, DCF 251, and the BGCGM Employee Handbook.
  • Inspect facilities quarterly to ensure they are safe and meet all licensing requirements. Based on assessments and in collaboration with the Club Managers, implement and monitor loss control and risk management programs in response to incidents.
  • Communicate detailed action plans of agency-wide decisions to ensure Clubs are informed, understand the rationale, and are prepared to respond.
