About The Position

Area Director in Residence Life Position Summary: Chowan University invites applications for a full-time, live-in Residence Life Coordinator. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive residential experience that promotes student engagement, leadership, community development, and personal growth. The Residence Life Coordinator oversees the daily operations of a residential community, including staff supervision, programming, conduct processes, and facility management, while supporting the mission of a Christian university.   • Bachelor’s degree required (graduate coursework a plus).
  • 1–2 years of experience in student affairs or residence life.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a residential or campus setting.

  • Experience supervising student staff preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and support evening and weekend residential programming.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of Resident Assistants (RAs).
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings with Resident Assistants.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation as a professional staff member.
  • Complete monthly room and building inspections.
  • Report and follow up on maintenance and housekeeping concerns.
  • Assist with Blackboard Transact Security operations.
  • Serve as a conduct hearing officer as directed.
  • Act as “key essential” personnel during emergencies.
  • Support community standards and student success initiatives.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive residential environment.
  • Reside in an on-campus residence hall.
  • Ensure adherence to all Residence Life policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life.
