Job Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Residential Life, the Area Coordinator (AC) is a live-in professional who oversees the daily operations and leadership of their assigned area. The incumbent responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following areas: Lead to Residential Life Coordinators (SSPII), Resident Assistants (RAs), and Student Assistants (SAs); case coordination centering around student behavior, residential curriculum and community development; and administrative components. The AC also takes responsibility for one of the primary/core tasks of the department (e.g., recruitment, training, RHA, operations, DEI, etc.). The incumbent assists in the overall development and implementation of the Housing & Residential Life operations including the coordination of the residential life staff, programs, services and facilities of the program. The incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive and provide culturally sensitive services that enhance the quality of campus life, retention and graduation rate. Requirements

• Earned or equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and at least three years’ experience in higher ed student housing or related field
• Valid CA Driver License required.
• Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on university business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.
• LiveScan required.
• Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
• Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
• Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in Student Development, Higher Education, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field, highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Staff Development & Leadership - Assist with departmental strategic planning and development. Lead Residential Life Coordinators (RLC)s, Resident Assistants (RAs) and Student Assistants (SAs); evaluate performance and provide on-going feedback, coaching, guidance in handling difficult situations and resident concerns. Hold weekly staff meetings and bi-weekly 1:1 meetings with Ras. Hold weekly 1:1 meetings with assigned RLC(s).
• Administration & Committee Work - Under the direction of the Residential Life Leadership Team, chair or co-chair a departmental committee and ensure all responsibilities and tasks are completely accurate and by established deadlines. Coordinate area administration, procedures, and operation, including opening and closing the buildings for the new academic year and break periods.
• Residential Curriculum, Community Development, and Student Success - Collaborate with Residence Life Leadership team to develop and implement the Residential Curriculum. Create an environment that enables students to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, interpersonally, and ethically.
• Student Behavior, Case Coordination, & Crisis Management - Serve in on-call rotation. This position requires variable working hours, including late night and early morning hours as situations dictate, as well as when needed in an emergency response capacity. The Area Coordinator, in conjunction with other professional Residential Life staff members, alternates on-call coverage. Assess and address student concerns/crisis. Respond to the needs and problems of residents in a conscientious, appropriate, and timely manner.
