About The Position

River Valley Holdings is a family-owned distribution company based in Syracuse, NY, serving retail customers across the northeastern United States. The River Valley family of companies: River Valley Foods, Cavallaro Foods and Garden Spot Foods, distributes a wide range of specialty dry and frozen grocery items and consumable products out of warehouses in Syracuse, NY. The Accounts Receivable Specialist conducts various A/R functions to support the organization. The focus of this position will be processing and posting customer deposits, consistent customer contact and collections to improve cash flow, processing customer credits and other related A/R tasks in a timely manner. This position is key in supporting executive management’s business planning functions.

Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with a focus on Excel
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity
  • Excellent Communication Skills – verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in Accounts Receivable field is desired
  • Proven track record with customer collections
  • Good understanding of the credit approval process and ability to facilitate that process
  • Effective communication skills, ability to relay a friendly, helpful and professional message in telephone and inter-personal activities
  • Ability to maintain strong accuracy and attention to detail in fast-paced, high volume environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and processes all deposits daily, reconciling and identifying short paid invoices timely and accurately in a high volume environment
  • Completes cash receipts postings to the accounting system (Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains)
  • Reviews, tracks and places initial and follow up customer collection and research calls
  • As needed, sends statements to customers, oversees customer returns and credits
  • Analyze customer Aging report to maximize cash flow and A/R turnover
  • Other office and/or accounting duties may be assigned as business needs require, and as opportunities occur in a hands-on, interactive fast-paced department setting
