About The Position

UPMC Mercy is hiring a Full Time Apprentice Plumber to support our facility! This position will work Monday-Friday from 7am-3pm. Purpose: Under supervision, maintain the hospital's plumbing, and other related systems in a clean, repaired and running condition for an efficient operation.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and successful completion of an accredited plumbing school and apprenticeship program or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of selected apprentice classes through an approved educational program during the apprenticeship program duration is mandatory.
  • Must possess the ability to respond to a variety of situations in difficult positions by the use of ladders, catwalks, crawl spaces, etc.
  • Must successfully obtain and keep active an Allegheny County or other local jurisdictional license within sixty months from the date of hire into the apprentice position.
  • Must possess current drivers license.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to the Basics of Service Excellence in all interactions with clients and the public.
  • Under supervision, check water supply distribution systems and sanitary systems for proper operation.
  • Under supervision of a journeyman technician, check meters, gauges, signal lights and other warning devices for possible problems and make necessary corrections.
  • Under supervision of a journeyman electrician or engineer, inspect electrical wiring and electrical devices and make necessary repairs and corrections related to plumbing systems.
  • Under supervision, inspect mechanical devices and make any necessary repairs or corrections.
  • Collect data sheets and charts for leadman and manager.
  • Interpret all information gathered from blueprints, instruction books and sketches, to maintain all plumbing equipment and systems in efficient, safe working order.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all components of plumbing systems and assist journeyman in troubleshooting.
  • Responsible for setting-up appropriate level of infection control containment (ICRA) based on risk level and maintaining the integrity of that containment.
  • Perform all work following infection control procedures.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area, equipment rooms and shop area.
  • Order material necessary for any job.
  • Record personal work orders and submit hours on a daily basis.
  • Under supervision of a journeyman technician, check all plumbing systems and equipment for efficient, safe operation.
