About The Position

The FILTR Lab Applications Engineering Intern will report to the Sr. Lab Director and will be based in Beverly, Massachusetts. The Applications Engineering Intern will be responsible for working with the FILTR Lab & Engineering teams to ensure projects and daily activities are supported. They play a pivotal role in Global Filter’s success by executing various action items needed with regards to lab testing, product testing, documentation best practices, engineering, and quality control. The Applications Engineering Intern will have a strong desire to learn the Global Filter product portfolio, testing equipment, analytical instruments, lab best practices, data analytics, and the Quality Control processes. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated quick learner with a strong bias for action. The candidate will possess a customer-centric mindset, sound communication skills, analytical skills, and the attention to detail necessary to ensure accurate data and information is provided. The person must be able to support FILTR Lab, Engineering, and Quality processes with an exceptional attitude, entrepreneurial mindset, and a team-player focus to effectively collaborate with all internal teams.

Requirements

  • Understanding and willingness to learn basic lab instruments and equipment,
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical reports and cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to the FILTR Lab & Engineering teams
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Adaptability to changing business needs and willingness to take on challenges.
  • Basic understanding of lean manufacturing principles and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.
  • Understanding of basic laboratory and engineering best practices

Responsibilities

  • Support Scientists and Engineers with testing and evaluation of liquid filtration products, including cartridges, housings, and media
  • Work hands-on with lab testing technologies and equipment, supporting data analysis and problem-solving initiatives
  • Assist with product validation activities, including efficiency testing, pressure drop measurements, flow-rate evaluations
  • Prepare test solutions, samples, and filtration assemblies according to established procedures
  • Contribute to process improvement projects aimed at enhancing efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain lab testing and validation related documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Utilize various testing and measurement equipment to validate that products meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Collect, record, and organize experimental data in alignment with laboratory recordkeeping and documentation best practices
  • Perform basic analytical testing such as turbidity measurement, particle counting, conductivity testing, or gravimetric analysis
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and ensure compliance with safety protocols and documentation standards
  • Perform experiments involving Biosafety Level 1 (BSL1) micro-organisms
  • Take on additional engineering projects based on business needs and personal interest.
