We are seeking a Laser Applications Intern to join our team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge fiber laser technology. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing custom process solutions for a variety of customer applications, including laser welding, ultrashort laser machining, laser marking, and more. As an enthusiastic and hands-on individual, you will thrive in our fast- paced lab environment, embracing the opportunity to learn new technologies and apply them to innovative projects. Experience with laser systems laser material processing applications is a plus.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled or recent graduate in a BS or MS program in Engineering, physics, or technical degree relevant to laser-based manufacturing technology is preferred.
  • Laser-based process development experience with one or more of the following processes is highly desirable. Processes include: welding, cutting, ablation, marking, drilling, micromachining, and ultrafast processing
  • Understanding and ability to interpret mechanical/technical drawings
  • Customer service focused skills: strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications along with problem-solving abilities
  • Desire to learn new systems and technologies
  • Results-oriented, with ability document all work with care
  • Experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22C.F.R. §120.15 are required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee. License exception Technology and software under restriction (TSR) defined in 15 CFR 740.6 may permit person from Country Group B.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, characterize and optimize laser workstations and laser process applications such as welding, cutting, drilling, ablation, marking, and micromachining
  • Operate, test, and troubleshoot laser-based systems and workstations. Systems include components such as electrical, mechanical, motion, optical, and software sub-systems.
  • Perform inspection of samples, including optical microscopy and metallographic destructive testing
  • Documentation of test results in electronic reports detailing system test data, laser processes parameters, and sample results
  • Responsible for maintenance of lab equipment
  • Support of engineering development activities, sales, and customer applications
  • Ability to positively impact outcomes by helping customers remotely and on-site to deploy IPG lasers and systems for material processing applications
