Applications Engineer II - Information Technology

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college, university or technical trade school with a major in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS) or a related field, as determined by the department director at the time of recruitment AND six (6) years of work experience in software development or maintenance, database administration or system administration.
- OR: An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college, university or technical trade school AND eight (8) years’ work experience in software development or maintenance, database administration or system administration.
- (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
- OR: Two (2) years of experience in a Pima County Information Technology Applications Engineer I classification or related as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
- Valid driver license is required at time of application.
- Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in IT applications supporting and administering various business system applications and predominately an enterprise system.
- Experience administering and supporting a complex enterprise application with multiple integrations, dependencies, and cross-system impacts.
- Experience leading patching and change management activities, including analyzing release notes, planning and executing testing, implementing upgrades, and validating system stability and performance after deployment.
- Experience with working in an environment with multiple customers, both internal and external to their organization, who have a wide range of complex business requirements in an IT context.
Responsibilities
- Designs and develops software requirements into technical designs, reviews and provides guidance for designs of lower-level developers, database administrators and systems administrators
- Programs/configures changes to existing automation solutions
- Plans, develops, maintains databases over a variety of database platforms
- Designs, monitors and administers database security using appropriate protocols
- Creates processes and procedures for and installs application software on servers and configures for additional development, integration and usage
- Performs system administration tasks to maintain optimal operation and security
- Develops and implements processes and procedures related to software and databases
- Develops documentation for programs, acceptance criteria, validation plans, and other supporting system records
- May serve as a project leader for teams performing technology related analysis, research, implementation, testing or maintenance
- Responsible for other duties as assigned in support of the overall goals and functions of both the Department and Pima County.
