The Pima County Information Technology Department is seeking a self-motivated, thorough, disciplined, and perceptive individual for the role of Applications Engineer II. The ideal candidate has minimally three years experience administering an enterprise system and working knowledge of public safety applications. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college, university or technical trade school with a major in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS) or a related field, as determined by the department director at the time of recruitment AND six (6) years of work experience in software development or maintenance, database administration or system administration.
  • OR: An Associate’s Degree from an accredited college, university or technical trade school AND eight (8) years’ work experience in software development or maintenance, database administration or system administration.
  • (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
  • OR: Two (2) years of experience in a Pima County Information Technology Applications Engineer I classification or related as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
  • Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application.
  • Valid driver license is required at time of application.
  • Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
  • The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in IT applications supporting and administering various business system applications and predominately an enterprise system.
  • Experience administering and supporting a complex enterprise application with multiple integrations, dependencies, and cross-system impacts.
  • Experience leading patching and change management activities, including analyzing release notes, planning and executing testing, implementing upgrades, and validating system stability and performance after deployment.
  • Experience with working in an environment with multiple customers, both internal and external to their organization, who have a wide range of complex business requirements in an IT context.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops software requirements into technical designs, reviews and provides guidance for designs of lower-level developers, database administrators and systems administrators
  • Programs/configures changes to existing automation solutions
  • Plans, develops, maintains databases over a variety of database platforms
  • Designs, monitors and administers database security using appropriate protocols
  • Creates processes and procedures for and installs application software on servers and configures for additional development, integration and usage
  • Performs system administration tasks to maintain optimal operation and security
  • Develops and implements processes and procedures related to software and databases
  • Develops documentation for programs, acceptance criteria, validation plans, and other supporting system records
  • May serve as a project leader for teams performing technology related analysis, research, implementation, testing or maintenance
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned in support of the overall goals and functions of both the Department and Pima County.
