About The Position

The Information Technology Analyst II is primarily responsible for configuring, installing, and maintaining operating systems and upgrades, memory, software, third-party applications, and peripheral equipment, diagnosing and troubleshooting software and hardware problems. Responsibilities may include assistance to staff and faculty with the setup and usage of workstations or systems, the configuration, installation, and maintenance of operating systems and upgrades, memory, software, third-party applications, and peripheral equipment. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in systems administration and troubleshooting, along with a proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service. While the position is technical in nature, success in this role requires a proactive, service-oriented mindset and the ability to engage effectively with end users across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or equivalent relevant experience or combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
  • Five years’ experience in Information Systems.
  • Five years of relevant desktop and operating system (Windows/Mac) administration experience, or equivalent experience in a networked/educational environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network configuration, file sharing facilities, user authentication, host and network security, viruses, spyware, and common desktop applications.
  • Advanced working knowledge of debugging skills in a heterogeneous, networked environment are helpful.
  • Must have strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers at various technical and organizational levels from diverse cultural backgrounds, languages and nationalities.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • This is an on-campus position requiring 5 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot software and hardware problems.
  • Analyze and evaluate laboratory computer configurations.
  • Examine and measure system load and performance.
  • Administer system configuration files, file systems and disks.
  • Effectively respond to routine desktop inquiries from users and provide basic support with managing user accounts, printing, email, network access, storage (OneDrive, Dropbox) and other system-related questions.
  • Perform system backups and file restores.
  • Maintain accurate logs of system configurations, errors, hardware, software repairs and modifications, as well as software licenses.
  • Act as liaison to system vendors, end users and IT Services.
  • Track design and operational problems to be corrected by outside personnel.
  • Coordinate work with external maintenance agreements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve audio/video issues related to conference Zoom rooms.
  • Provide event support, including assisting external speakers with connecting their devices to the system, projecting content, testing microphones, launching meetings, and ensuring smooth technical execution.
  • Assist in the development and automation of tools for system maintenance and tracking, including scripting solutions (e.g., PowerShell) to streamline documentation, logging, and operational workflows.
  • Perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.
