OVERVIEW: The Application Manager – Investment Systems is a leadership role responsible for the end‑to‑end ownership, stability, and strategic evolution of critical investment and wealth management platforms. This role serves as the primary accountable owner for core trading, order management, and investment data applications, ensuring they are reliable, scalable, secure, and aligned with business objectives. Acting as a trusted partner to Trading, Portfolio Management, Operations, Compliance, Risk, and Technology, the Application Manager drives application strategy, vendor performance, and operational excellence across the full application lifecycle. The role includes leadership responsibilities such as mentoring analysts and subject matter experts, guiding decision‑making, and continuously improving service delivery through KPI‑driven management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in application management, systems ownership, business analysis or senior operations roles within financial services, with a focus on investment or wealth management systems
  • 3–5+ years of hands‑on experience supporting an order management or trading platform (e.g., Charles River IMS); Charles River experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of investment operations, trading workflows, compliance requirements, and investment data
  • Proven experience managing vendors, contracts, and service levels in a production environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, make informed decisions, and balance business needs with risk and operational considerations
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders clearly and confidently

  • Experience overseeing application portfolios across OMS, market data, and investment reporting platforms
  • Demonstrated success leading incident, release, and change management for mission‑critical systems
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience using KPIs and metrics to drive service improvement and operational discipline
  • Familiarity with SQL and analytics/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI) to support data analysis and informed decision‑making
  • Prior experience mentoring analysts or acting in a formal or informal people‑lead role.
  • Strong understanding of audit, regulatory, and control frameworks within investment management environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of assigned investment systems, including strategy, roadmap planning, upgrades, and enhancements
  • Define and execute application roadmaps aligned to business priorities, regulatory requirements, and technology standards
  • Serve as the primary escalation point and decision‑maker for application‑related issues, risks, and trade-offs
  • Lead and manage cross-functional projects, implementations, integrations, and process improvements, ensuring delivery on scope, timeline, and outcomes
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and resilience of production investment platforms, including Order Management System (OMS), Client Reporting, and other trading and investment systems
  • Lead incident, problem, and root‑cause management, coordinating across vendors and internal teams to restore service and prevent recurrence
  • Establish and monitor KPIs and SLAs to measure system health, support quality, and operational effectiveness
  • Manage strategic vendor relationships for investment systems and data vendors, including contract negotiation, renewals, cost oversight, and performance management
  • Enforce contractual terms, SLAs, and service expectations while actively identifying opportunities for cost optimization and value realization
  • Coordinate vendor releases, patches, and upgrades to minimize business disruption and risk
  • Govern application releases and changes in alignment with enterprise change management and control standards
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate application‑level risks, including operational, data, and vendor risks
  • Ensure applications meet audit, compliance, and regulatory expectations, supporting exams and internal reviews as needed
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders across Trading, Portfolio Management, Operations, Compliance, and Technology
  • Translate business strategy into application capabilities and guide stakeholders on system constraints, opportunities, and impacts
  • Lead cross‑functional discussions to align priorities, resolve conflicts, and drive timely decisions
  • Mentor, coach, and guide business analysts and system subject matter expert (SMEs), setting clear expectations and promoting strong application ownership behaviors
  • Provide direction on best practices for analysis, testing, documentation, and production support
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and proactive problem‑solving
  • Oversee complex data integrations across OMS, portfolio accounting, market data, and downstream reporting platforms.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and lineage across internal and external investment data sources.
  • Leverage deep knowledge of investment workflows, including trading, compliance, modeling, and post‑trade processing.
