About The Position

ERT is seeking a Application Systems Developer to support NOAA's Air Research Laboratory Special Operations and Research Division. This division plays a crucial role in contributing to the safety and efficient operation of the Idaho National Laboratories by producing valuable weather data. These data are gathered from weather stations across the eastern Idaho desert, and used for forecasting, weather modeling, scientific research, and emergency operations. This position will play a pivotal role in developing applications to improve the way weather data are acquired, stored, and disseminated. Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following areas: Application Development, Maintenance and Improvement (Primary) Perform application development to support various scientific tasks that may involve data acquisition, processing, storage and display. Perform basic database development, interaction, maintenance, and updates. Maintain/improve various in-house developed applications, to include troubleshooting. IT Support (Secondary) Perform IT tasks such as installing, configuring, maintaining, and resolving issues with computer/network systems. Work with the NOAA ARL Cybersecurity team to run system scans, apply patches, or mitigate vulnerabilities.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge/experience in scripting languages (Python, SQL, JavaScript, ActionScript, Bash, etc.) and software/application development languages
  • Hands-on programming experience with Unix/Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Some experience in providing system administration and software support
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge/experiences in Fortran, C, Basic, basic web development, and SQL database
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team and individual environment
  • Problem-solving and solution driven
