About The Position

The Application Administrator is a key member of the BYU-Pathway Systems Team and reports to the Director of Technology Operations. This position collaborates closely with the Systems Team, Information and Communication Services (ICS), and other technology partners to manage and coordinate software licensing, installations, updates, configurations, user roles, and access administration. The administrator supports over 3,000 instructors and 2,000 workforce staff worldwide, ensuring reliable system performance and user access. Additionally, this role is responsible for monitoring application health and performance to maintain the integrity, availability, and security of core enterprise systems. Administered Applications Anthology Student (SIS) Anthology Student Portal Anthology Reach, Apply, Succeed (Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM) BYU-Pathway Data Repository, which includes the Anthology Data Warehouse, Canvas Zoom BYU-Pathway Integration Adapters

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum of two years of experience in application administration or a closely related technical role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in requirements management, including elicitation, analysis, and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of technical and operational application functionality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive relationships across teams.
  • Proven experience managing tasks and projects using digital collaboration and tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello).
  • Proficiency in technical architecture and system design principles.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities; capable of diagnosing issues, identifying root causes, and implementing effective solutions.
  • Familiarity with citizen-level development tools (e.g., Power Apps, low-code/no-code platforms).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in higher education environments.
  • Knowledge of business architecture, business analysis, and enterprise analysis principles.
  • Ability to conduct solution assessment and validation to ensure alignment with business and technical requirements.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies and other modern project management frameworks.
  • Experience with application configuration, monitoring, and upgrades.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to protect data and applications.
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and software deployment processes.
  • Experience supporting or administering cloud-based application environments and SaaS platforms.
  • Working knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM) practices, monitoring tools, and change management processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Support Operations: Direct day-to-day support for instructional and workforce systems, ensuring efficient service delivery, rapid issue resolution, and customer satisfaction.
  • Team Leadership: Train and manage the Application Administration team that includes three part-time student contractors; promote collaboration to help team accomplish the work.
  • Systems & Security Administration: Serve as System Administrator for the Anthology SIS and other core systems. Manage configuration, permissions, API integrations, and ensure data integrity, compliance, and access control through Azure AD and related tools.
  • Application Monitoring & Data Governance: Maintain and monitor application performance, configuration, and integrations. Ensure compliance with data governance, backup, and disaster recovery operations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement technology-driven process enhancements to improve efficiency, reliability, and user engagement. Document and refine support workflows to align with organizational best practices.
  • Compliance & Security: Adhere to and enforce logical and physical security policies. Coordinate application and system security measures to protect data and infrastructure. Report non-compliance promptly.
  • Data Governance: Ensure compliance with FERPA and institutional data privacy standards through access controls, staff training, and secure data management practices.
  • On-Call and Critical Operations: Provide or coordinate after-hours coverage during critical maintenance periods, such as system upgrades, deployments, and outages, to ensure operational continuity.
  • Cross-Functional Engagement: Actively participate in projects, provide feedback during planning and testing phases, and contribute to organizational knowledge through both teaching and learning opportunities.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support evolving technology and business needs.
