About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Coordinator serves as a clinical leader and resource for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) within a designated service line at OU Health. This role blends clinical practice with operational and professional leadership to ensure high quality patient care, regulatory compliance, effective onboarding, and ongoing professional development for APP team members. The APP Coordinator collaborates with Office of Advanced Practice (OAP) leadership, physician leaders, operational managers, and interprofessional partners to support credentialing, practice expectations, performance management, and strategic initiatives that advance APP practice across the system. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Professional Nursing if APRN, or MSN/Master’s in Physician Assistant Services.
  • At least two (2) years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
  • Must obtain prescriptive authority within 30 days of onboarding.
  • Life safety certifications required for both APRN and PA roles.
  • Additional certification required.
  • IF Advance Practice Nurse: Active RN and APRN License in State of Oklahoma. Additional certification required.
  • IF Physician Assistant (PA): Active PA license in State of Oklahoma –AND– Active Physician Assistant certification from the NCCPA. Additional certification required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a complex clinical environment and build collaborative working relationships.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; able to influence, engage, and support others.
  • Ability to make sound clinical and operational judgments related to APP practice.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications; basic understanding of billing and revenue processes.
  • Knowledge of APRN/PA scope of practice and APP policies.
  • Advanced clinical knowledge of disease processes, assessments, diagnostic interpretation, and evidence based management across specialties.
  • Proficiency in specialty specific procedural skills where applicable.
  • Ability to uphold ethical principles related to patient confidentiality, informed consent, and professional accountability.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making abilities.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, quality improvement, and professional development.
  • Ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary team and adapt to high pressure, emotionally intense situations.
  • Flexible, resilient, and able to manage multiple priorities in time sensitive environments.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and role related software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates orientation and transition to practice for new and new to service APPs in collaboration with clinical, operational, and OAP leadership.
  • Identifies individual and team practice gaps and partners with APP leadership to implement targeted development and improvement plans.
  • Ensures timely completion of FPPE/OPPE requirements, including proctoring, and provides learning opportunities to support APP professional growth.
  • Provides input for performance evaluations regarding practice standards, clinical competencies, and professional behaviors.
  • Monitors adherence to work expectations and assists with scheduling needs to ensure adequate coverage and alignment with OU Health policies.
  • Serves as a resource for APP practice questions, escalations, and daily operational issues.
  • Supports systemwide initiatives led by the Office for Advanced Practice related to advancing APRN and PA practice, education, and research.
  • Participates in interprofessional partnerships to foster coordinated, high quality patient care across specialties.
  • Maintains current knowledge of national and regional trends impacting APP practice, regulatory changes, and specialty specific expectations.
  • Models professional conduct and accountability aligned with OU Health values and policies.
  • Performs comprehensive and accurate history and physical assessments appropriate to patient age, presentation, and specialty needs.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic studies; develops, implements, and adjusts evidence based plans of care.
  • Provides patient- and family-centered care emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, chronic disease management, and acute care needs.
  • Ensures completion of accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Contributes to the development, evaluation, and refinement of clinical standards, guidelines, and specialty specific protocols.
  • Participates in research, quality improvement, and performance initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes and patient care delivery.
  • Collaborates effectively with physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and external partners to support safe, coordinated care.
  • Educates patients, families, learners, and colleagues; advocates for patients navigating the healthcare system.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, quality activities, committees, and educational events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
