About The Position

The Agency of Transportation is looking for a motivated individual to join their Rutland team as a Fleet Service Technician. This position requires proficiency in software used to diagnose and repair a wide variety of fleet equipment, as well as skills in vehicle and equipment electronic diagnosis and repair. The role encourages knowledge sharing and collaborative learning within the team. The work is challenging but rewarding, focusing on the repair and maintenance of a diverse fleet including light and medium duty pickups, heavy duty dump trucks, bucket loaders, backhoes, excavators, and trailers. A sign-on and retention bonus of up to $2000 is available for eligible newly hired CDL and non-CDL holders into permanent maintenance worker or mechanic jobs on or after July 13, 2025.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of experience in the maintenance and service of light, medium, and/or heavy duty vehicles and equipment at the journeyman’s level INCLUDING experience in the installation and service of vehicle and equipment related electronic components
  • OR Three (3) years or more as a Fleet Technician III
  • A valid Driver’s License
  • Obtain a Commercial Learner’s permit within 60 days of employment
  • Obtain a Vermont State Inspection Mechanic Certification within 60 days of employment
  • Obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License, with air-brake certification and tanker endorsement, within six (6) months of employment
  • Provide own hand-tools

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair a wide variety of fleet equipment using specialized software
  • Perform vehicle and equipment electronic diagnosis and repair
  • Perform repair and maintenance of a fleet including light and medium duty pickups, heavy duty dump trucks, bucket loaders, backhoes, excavators, and trailers
