About The Position

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) is seeking a seasonal Fleet Service Technician to join their Rutland team. This role involves using skills in diagnostics, repair, and maintenance to keep a diverse fleet running, including light and medium-duty pickups, heavy-duty dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, excavators, and trailers. Proficiency with diagnostic software and vehicle electronics is important, along with the ability to collaborate, share knowledge, and work in a team-oriented environment. The position plays a critical role in maintaining Vermont’s transportation system for public safety and reliability. Starting pay may be negotiable based on experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for a sign-on and retention bonus of up to $2000 for newly hired CDL and non-CDL holders who are hired into permanent maintenance worker or mechanic jobs on or after July 13, 2025.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of experience in the maintenance and service of light, medium, and/or heavy duty vehicles and equipment INCLUDING experience in the installation and service of vehicle and equipment related electronic components
  • OR One (1) year or more as a Fleet Technician II
  • A valid Driver’s License is required
  • Must obtain a Commercial Learner’s permit within 60 days of employment
  • Must obtain a Vermont State Inspection Mechanic Certification within 60 days of employment
  • Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License, with air-brake certification and tanker endorsement, within six (6) months of employment
  • Must provide their own hand-tools
