About The Position

Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine (MSOM) invites applications for a full-time Anatomy Faculty position within the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Faculty at MSOM play a vital role in shaping the next generation of osteopathic physicians through interactive instruction, collaborative curriculum development, mentorship, and scholarly engagement. Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in Anatomy or a related field, or an MD/DO from an accredited institution.
  • At least two (2) years of teaching experience in higher education; experience teaching medical students is highly preferred.
  • Experience teaching in a medical school for 2+ years is required.
  • Demonstrated experience with team-based learning (TBL) and other active learning modalities.
  • Experience with course directorship and grade submission across various platforms.
  • Ability to contribute to the department’s teaching load.
  • Knowledge of test question validity metrics and experience writing NBOME/NBME-style exam items is highly preferred.
  • Expertise in organizing and presenting complex scientific subject matter in comprehensible ways.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and health professionals.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality (FERPA, HIPAA) and follow OSHA and safety guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to learn and use the current learning management system and other educational technologies.
  • Ability to maintain a productive work schedule aligned with instructional needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and collegiality.
  • Ability to accept direction from the Department Chair and Curricular Deans and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Commitment to protecting institutional equipment and completing annual employee training.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in curriculum mapping and assessment is preferred.
  • Experience working with accreditation standards is preferred.
  • Experience in advising students for the board-preparation is preferred.
  • Experience in using educational software, LMS, Microsoft, and other professional resources.
  • Highly desirable: experience with HoloAnatomy and InteDashboard applications.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the anatomy content expert for OMS-I and OMS-II students.
  • Deliver laboratory and didactic instruction, including concurrent teaching of Anatomy lab sessions.
  • Engage in team teaching, curriculum development, and curriculum delivery across biomedical science disciplines.
  • Create prework materials, recordings, iRAT/tRAT items, application exercises, and case-based learning activities.
  • Develop goals, course learning outcomes, and session learning objectives for lectures, labs, and team-based learning sessions.
  • Prepare educational tools such as A/V materials, demonstration models, lesson plans, and other instructional resources.
  • Provide board-style formative and summative assessment questions, including NBOME/NBME-style items.
  • Participate in course directorship responsibilities as needed.
  • Experience in interviewing prospective students and learner assessment.
  • Mentor and advise medical students, including identifying underperforming learners and supporting remediation efforts.
  • Interview prospective student candidates for MSOM.
  • Serve as an advisor to at least one student club.
  • Participate in faculty council, faculty development activities, and institutional/departmental committees.
  • Attend required ceremonies and events such as White Coat Ceremony, graduation, in-service meetings, student outreach, and others unless excused by the Associate Dean of Preclinical Education.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and other health professionals.
  • Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Engage in scientific, educational, community-based, or other scholarly activities.
  • Work with students on research and interprofessional education projects.
  • Submit a current yearly CV documenting publications, teaching, mentoring, and committee work.
  • Publish a minimum of one manuscript per year.
  • Participate in research and scholarly activities as assigned.
