About The Position

The Analytical Specialist is a multi-functional role responsible for analytical chemistry method development, conducting laboratory analysis, and preparation of detailed technical reports within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited petroleum, 3rd party testing laboratory. This position combines hands-on laboratory analysis with scientific writing and method optimization. The Analytical Specialist ensures technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, data integrity, and continuous improvement of analytical methods and laboratory processes. The successful candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team to deliver accurate, defensible, and timely analytical results to clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 3–7 years of experience in an analytical laboratory, preferably within petroleum, petrochemical, environmental, or fuels testing.
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in method development and validation.
  • Strong technical report writing experience required.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients and team members.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • High attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Problem-solving mindset with continuous improvement focus.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment handling petroleum samples and chemicals.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs. as required.
  • Compliance with all safety and PPE requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing in accordance with standardized test methods (e.g. AASHTO, ASTM, EPA) and other applicable methods.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC, GC-MS, ICP, GCP, FID, FTIR, XRF, etc.).
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance, calibration, and quality control checks to ensure accurate and reliable performance.
  • Ensure proper documentation of test data and laboratory records.
  • Maintain strict adherence to ISO 17025 quality system requirements.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and inter-laboratory comparison programs.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods for petroleum matrices and related products.
  • Perform method validation studies including precision, accuracy, linearity, LOD/LOQ, robustness, and uncertainty evaluation.
  • Draft and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and test methods.
  • Support method transfers and implementation within the laboratory.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to support project objectives, investigate anomalies, and resolve technical issues.
  • Compile, review, and present analytical data in clear, professional report formats
  • Interpret analytical data and provide scientifically sound conclusions.
  • Communicate findings clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally, to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare report formatting for specification-based and long format analysis
  • Assist management with data entry, quality review, and preparation of charts/graphics for outgoing reports
  • Ensure reports meet ISO 17025 documentation and traceability requirements.
  • Support audits (internal and external) by providing technical documentation and justifications.
  • Work collaboratively with laboratory staff, quality personnel, and management to ensure accurate and timely delivery of results.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards and laboratory quality policies.
  • Participate in internal audits and corrective/preventive action processes.
  • Maintain equipment calibration and verification records.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
