Analytical Lab Technician Job

RemoraWixom, MI
16h$95,000 - $140,000Onsite

About The Position

Remora is hiring an Analytical Lab Technician to support the characterization, calibration, maintenance, and reliability of analytical instruments used in the development of adsorbent materials for the Remora mobile carbon capture device. This role is critical to ensuring data integrity and equipment performance, particularly when operating instruments at extreme conditions (e.g., high-concentration CO₂ streams). The position goes beyond routine testing and requires strong ownership of instrument health, calibration discipline, laboratory organization, and continuous improvement of test systems and procedures. We're building modular carbon capture systems for vehicles — turning exhaust into beverage-grade CO2 sold to breweries and greenhouses. We deploy in regions facing severe CO2 shortages, where prices are highest, allowing us to generate high margins without tax credits or carbon credits. We've signed up some of the largest companies in the world to pilot our technology, including iconic multibillion-dollar brands, top trucking companies, and some of the most recognizable Fortune 100 companies. We’ve raised multiple rounds of funding from top investors like Lowercarbon Capital, Union Square Ventures, First Round Capital, Y Combinator, and Valor Equity Partners.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in analytical laboratory environments, ideally Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) or Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Strong experience maintaining and calibrating analytical instruments (e.g., GC, MS, isotherm systems, volumetric rigs).
  • Demonstrated understanding of instrument calibration standards and data integrity best practices.
  • Experience operating within defined procedures and exact test protocols.
  • Mechanical aptitude with test equipment and measurement systems.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve calibration procedures, SOPs, and lab documentation (manuals, MSDS, calibration logs, operation forms).
  • Adapt instrumentation and test methods to evolve R&D needs, including operating equipment specification limits.
  • Implement best practices for calibration, data integrity, and audit readiness.
  • Identify and execute equipment upgrades or process improvements to enhance accuracy, repeatability, and reliability.
  • Ensure that all lab systems remain operational, calibrated, and properly documented.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of calibration principles, instrument limitations, and measurement uncertainty.
  • Develop analytical method validation protocols to ensure accurate lab scale data.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate analytical equipment including GC and volumetric isotherm systems.
  • Validate instruments and test setups prior to experiments to ensure operation within manufacturer specifications.
  • Execute tightly controlled experiments following precise procedures and defined variables.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues independently and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform supporting measurements (e.g., gas analysis, SO₂ scrubbing validation, solution density measurements) with proper calibration controls.
  • Maintain thorough experimental notes and accurate data records for traceability and repeatability.
  • Communicate experimental results, calibration status, and equipment limitations to cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate test requests and lab priorities with engineering and R&D stakeholders.
  • Document and explain modifications to test setups or procedures.
  • Contribute to a well-organized, collaborative lab environment.
