The Analyst/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is the local administrator for electronic mapping, drafting and facility information maintenance processes. The incumbent maintains current knowledge of all Southwest Gas GIS applications including but not limited to: ESRI ArcGIS/ArcFM, field mobile solutions, AutoCAD, GPS software and hardware, engineering modeling applications, document management software, and Company-specific manuals and procedures. This position evaluates workflow processes and initiates system efficiencies; creates and executes advanced spatial data queries using geoprocessing tools, Python programming language and/or SQL queries; performs analyses to support data requests for State, DOT and operations pipe integrity programs; acts as a liaison between their division and corporate GIS System Administrator; and provides leadership in the GIS department in the supervisor’s absence. POSITION DIMENSIONS This position does not have direct accountability for people or budget. However, this position provides leadership in the supervisor’s absence and may lead department activities, including the activities of contractors, as directed by the Supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS There are clear precedents and practices which the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in GIS or related field from an accredited university and one to three years relevant experience, or three to five years of relevant work experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. This position requires GIS platform and IT systems knowledge. Knowledge of relational databases, SQL, Python or other programming languages is preferred. The incumbent must provide innovative thinking and creativity and be able to interact with functional organizations throughout the Divisions. Good oral and written communications skills are needed. This incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license.
