About The Position

Whirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Analyst, Food Technology Engineer. This role is onsite at our location at Edgewater Tech Center in St. Joseph, MI. The Analyst, Food Technology Engineer will be responsible for the development and verification of culinary performance for freestanding ranges, built in wall ovens, and built in cooktops globally. They will own both the virtual and physical development of cooking accessories, cavity components, and the development of appliance algorithms to meet consumer expectations. The Analyst, Food Technology Engineer will represent the voice of the customer with respect to cavity and cooktop culinary performance in projects with high levels of cross functional teaming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Engineering, or a Science field.
  • 1+ years of experience in Appliance, Consumer Goods, or Food Manufacturing Industry
  • 1+ years of experience with product development tools such as DFMEA ( Design Failure Mode Effect ), A3 (Problem Solving Form), Requirement management and Stage Gate Development Plan

  • Advanced knowledge of food chemistry and heat transfer
  • Kinetic modeling of reactions in food
  • Ability to analyze mechanical and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of control theory and control systems
  • Demonstrated project management and computer skills
  • Ability to travel within the US and global design centers
  • Black Belt/Opex/Six Sigma experience
  • Knowledge of Consumer Reports or other consumer agency evaluation methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Translate the voice of the customer to system, subsystem, and component level requirements.
  • Design and execution of cavity and cooktop components with respect to culinary performance including heating elements, convection systems, utensils, racks, trays, griddles, and grills.
  • Creation, verification, and validation of advanced cooking and sensing algorithms to provide best in class culinary performance.
  • Connecting consumers to their kitchens in new ways as subject matter expert for Internet of Things and App Software teams.
  • Technical project management, schedule, resource management, and risk analysis, related to modules, components, and algorithms owned.
  • Lead through others with planning, training, and facilitation of laboratory technicians.
  • Continuously improve the planning, processes, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
