About The Position

The Digital Solutions & Enablement team serves as the central hub for executing strategic technology initiatives across Commonfund's investment management businesses. We partner with business stakeholders to identify opportunities, design solutions, and deliver them from concept through implementation. We are seeking a technically skilled recent graduate with a foundation in data science, computer science, or engineering who is interested in applying their expertise to identify digital solutions to optimize business operations across Commonfund. You'll partner with teams across the firm to learn their processes, uncover common pain points, and help deliver shared solutions that improve data accuracy and insights at scale. This position is based in our Norwalk, CT office.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field)
  • Coursework or project experience with BI and analytics applications (Tableau, Power BI, etc.), programming (Python/R, SQL, etc.), and databases (MS SQL Server, AWS, etc.)
  • Self motivated team player, comfortable working within a dynamic business environment, juggling multiple responsibilities and pivoting to new challenges/priorities as they arise
  • Curious and collaborative, with a desire to learn how different teams operate and an eye for identifying common challenges that can be solved through shared solutions
  • Enjoys problem solving and being "the glue" between business challenges/opportunities and delivering results
  • Foundational understanding of databases, data flows, and how data relates across various sources
  • Strong communicator who can build collaborative relationships across business and IT teams
  • Proactive and resourceful, comfortable working through ambiguity and crafting solutions with limited guidance

Nice To Haves

  • Finance course work a plus but not required
  • Internship or project experience in data science, business intelligence, or analytics
  • Exposure to machine learning (ML) models or AI implementation through coursework, personal projects, or internships
  • Interest in or exposure to institutional investment management, asset management, or financial services
  • Familiarity with data governance, data management, or MDM concepts

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and testing of machine learning models to address business problems (e.g., forecasting, classification, anomaly detection, NLP)
  • Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines for model training, feature engineering, and deployment
  • Research emerging AI/ML tools, platforms, and techniques and summarize findings for the team
  • Help monitor model performance and flag issues or opportunities for improvement
  • Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations using BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) to support business decision making
  • Analyze data across multiple sources to identify trends, surface insights, and support business cases
  • Work with databases and data flows to ensure accurate, reliable reporting
  • Apply a data driven, user centered approach to delivering information that meets business user needs
  • Participate in discovery sessions to understand pain points, workflows, and requirements
  • Help translate business challenges into clear problem statements and technical requirements
  • Research and evaluate technology solutions, contributing to comparative analyses and recommendations
  • Support communication between business stakeholders and IT to ensure solutions are feasible and aligned
