About The Position

This position manages sites for America Reads, an academic tutoring program employing ASU students as tutors and mentors for K-8th grade children attending under-resourced schools. This position will provide professional level site management support to the America Reads Program, within Access ASU; will coordinate and perform America Reads Program pre-semester functions, semester functions, semester closing functions, supervise student leaders and work with community partners; assist with general administration projects, research and analysis, procedural studies and technical planning. America Reads partners with local schools and community centers to offer tutoring, mentoring and academic skill building services to children living in low-income areas or attending Title I schools. ASU students, including those who are eligible for Federal Work Study through the financial aid office participate as tutors and mentors. In the tutoring program, K-8th grade children receive 1-on-1 tutoring, the America Reads tutors facilitate interactive educational activities that corresponds to the Arizona Academic Standards in reading, writing and math. The middle school program is targeted for 6-8th grade children to address academic skill building, life skills, college preparation, positive decision-making, self-esteem, etc. Schedule & Appointment 100% in-person This position is a short term-position 20 hours per week, scheduled flexibly Monday–Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. based on programming needs and staff availability Occasional nights and weekends required Work primarily takes place on the ASU Tempe campus, with travel to other campuses and off-site school or community locations Requires full-time (40 hours/week) in June to support Access ASU summer programs Must maintain active enrollment in an ASU graduate program

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and two-years (2) experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Must maintain active enrollment in an ASU graduate program

Responsibilities

  • Support classroom activities, presentations, and hands-on programming that help students explore college and career pathways.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of programs that align with Access ASU outreach and enrollment goals.
  • Coordinate event logistics such as registration, materials preparation, venue setup, transportation flow, check-in, and staffing support.
  • Maintain organized digital files, worksheets, calendars, and shared documents to support team communication and program operations.
  • Assist in ensuring smooth day-of execution at events across campuses and community sites.
  • Support the coordination, hiring, promoting, and training of student workers and event staff.
  • Provide excellent service to students, educators, families, and community partners.
  • Represent Access ASU professionally at all events.
  • Support data collection through attendance tracking, surveys, and post-event documentation.
  • Travels to community partner sites on a weekly basis to manage logistics and be trained to operate an ASU vehicle for the transporting of tutors and staff when necessary.
  • Assist in preparing reports to track student participation, program outcomes, and overall effectiveness.
  • Assists in development of new programs, policies or procedures; coordinates programs as assigned.
  • Offer feedback and recommendations for continuous improvement of programs.
  • Maintains safe environments for all participants
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned in support of Access ASU’s mission to increase access to higher education.
