About The Position

As a Medical Assistant/Allergy Tech working in an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) clinic, your responsibilities typically involve a combination of administrative and clinical tasks. Administrative duties include patient scheduling, registration, insurance verification, medical records management, billing and coding assistance, supply management, and facilitating communication. Clinical duties encompass patient preparation, performing allergy skin testing and interpreting results, administering immunotherapy injections, educating patients on allergy management, assisting physicians during ENT procedures, accurate documentation in EMRs, and adhering to safety and infection control protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) may be required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and allergy testing techniques.
  • Bilingual, Spanish.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a medical assistant program or certification as an allergy technician.
  • Additional certification as an Allergy Technician (CMAA) or Certified Clinical Allergy Specialist (CCAS) is desirable.
  • Prior experience in a medical office setting, especially in ENT or allergy clinics, is advantageous.
  • MA License Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patient appointments, surgeries, and follow-up visits, ensuring efficient use of time slots and coordination with other staff members.
  • Greet patients, collect demographic and insurance information, and update electronic medical records (EMRs) accurately.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage, obtain authorizations for procedures or tests, and assist patients with insurance-related inquiries.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date medical records, including filing, scanning, and retrieving documents as needed.
  • Assist with billing processes, including coding procedures and services accurately to ensure proper reimbursement.
  • Monitor inventory levels of medical and office supplies, restock as needed, and coordinate supply orders with the administrative team.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers, both in person and over the phone.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms, obtain vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature), and prepare patients for procedures or examinations.
  • Perform allergy skin testing, including prick tests and intradermal tests, and interpret results under the supervision of a physician.
  • Administer allergy immunotherapy injections according to physician orders, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Educate patients about allergy triggers, avoidance strategies, medication usage, and the purpose of allergy testing and immunotherapy.
  • Assist physicians during ENT procedures, such as ear irrigation, nasal endoscopy, or throat examinations, by providing support and maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Document patient assessments, procedures performed, and treatment plans accurately in EMRs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and clinic protocols.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, maintain cleanliness and sterilization of equipment, and promote a safe environment for patients and staff.
