About The Position

The Airport Police and Fire Officer 5 (Deputy Chief-Operations) at Anchorage International Airport (ANC) Police and Fire Department is responsible for overseeing and managing law enforcement, Aircraft Rescue Firefighting, rescue operations, hazardous material response, EMS, code enforcement, safety, and general emergency response functions to protect and care for those traveling to and from, as well as working at, ANC. This role includes managing staffing, equipment, and the provided budget to ensure readiness and response capabilities. The Deputy Chief will make recommendations for departmental policy changes and is empowered to interpret and enforce department policies and procedures to fulfill the mission. This position is responsible for the administration and management of up to 54 employees, including 12 Airport Police and Fire Officer (APFO) leads, 41 subordinate officers, and a Criminal Justice Technician. The incumbent may also assume responsibility for managing and directing the entire department, including the Airport Communication Center, and associated administrative duties, in the Chief's absence.

Requirements

  • Certification by the Alaska Police Standards Council 13 AAC 85.010
  • State of Alaska Fire Fighter I certification
  • State of Alaska Fire Fighter II certification
  • Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting certification
  • Valid driver`s license is required AS 28.15.011
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training (OSHA)
  • Must meet firearms qualifications
  • Must meet Department physical requirements
  • Possession of, or eligible for reinstatement of, an active police officer certificate issued by the Alaska Police Standards Council or reciprocal eligibility under 13 AAC 85.060 as determined by the Alaska Police Standards Council
  • Two years of experience as an Airport Police & Fire Officer 4 with the State of Alaska.
  • Five years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience certified by the Alaska Police Standards Council, or an equivalent agency in another U.S. jurisdiction, three years of which must be at the supervisory command level.
  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Be 21 years of age or older within one year of hire.
  • Possess a high school diploma recognized by a state; diploma from a home school program recognized or certified by a state or by a local school district within a state as having met the state's graduation requirements; or have passed a General Education Development (GED) test.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Incumbents will be required to achieve a Firefighter 1 and 2 certifications issued by the Alaska Fire Standards Council within 12 months of appointment.
  • Candidates for this position must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542) which requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check.
  • Candidates for this position must obtain and maintain Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) certification, which requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check. A felony conviction disqualifies a person from APSIN certification.
  • This position requires the use of firearm or ammunition.
