Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Typically 1+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience; able to perform assigned tasks independently with no supervision and assist others
  • Advanced experience in aircraft structures repair and modification
  • Strong working knowledge of flight control structural components
  • Proven ability to perform precision drilling, trimming, shimming, fitting, and assembly to blueprint requirements
  • Experience using assembly jigs, repair equipment, and fixed tooling
  • Working knowledge of airworthiness directives, technical directives, and service bulletins
  • Ability to identify discrepancies and escalate technical issues appropriately
  • Ability to lift and handle tools, materials, equipment, and components in a manufacturing environment within Boeing lifting standards of 35 lbs per person / 45 lbs for two-person lift

Responsibilities

  • Repair and overhaul metallic and composite aircraft structures for F/A-18 E/F flight controls
  • Perform structural repairs and modifications on strike fighters, commercial derivative aircraft, and flight control components
  • Identify and work with aircraft fasteners including rivets, blind rivets, screws, Hi-Loks, bolts, and lock bolts
  • Read and interpret blueprints, process data sheets, maintenance manuals, technical directives, airworthiness directives, and service bulletins
  • Remove and reinstall access panels and fairings, including removal of damaged screws without damaging surrounding structure
  • Fabricate, locate, trim, drill, ream, deburr, shim, and assemble metallic and composite components
  • Install aircraft fasteners including rivets, blind fasteners, and Hi-Loks in metallic and composite structures
  • Use assembly jigs, repair equipment, and fixed tooling to locate parts, trim, shim, final drill, and build components to blueprint requirements
  • Perform close-tolerance drilling to .001 inch and precision measurement to .0005 inch
  • Use precision measuring tools including micrometers, dial calipers, grip gauges, feeler gauges, depth gauges, tri-mics, and bore gauges
  • Apply aircraft surface treatments and finishes including primer, paint, Alodine, sealants, corrosion prevention, cleaning, polishing, and dry wash processes
  • Demonstrate knowledge of common fastener sizes and correct cutting tools for removal and installation
  • Install safety wire and cotter pins
  • Complete aircraft technical logs, maintenance documentation, work packages, and zonal handovers accurately and on time
  • Identify and escalate technical issues, discrepancies, and non-conformances to program leads and managers
