About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic II is responsible for supporting highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and ensuring safe air transportation for Cabinet Members, senior military leaders, and visiting foreign dignitaries. This role involves performing scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, including repairs and modifications to aircraft structures and components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components. The mechanic applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to troubleshoot malfunctions and solve complex problems using technical documentation. Key duties also include various inspections (preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight, phase), assisting aircrew, launching and recovering aircraft, performing operational checks, maintaining aircraft appearance, operating ground support equipment, and managing aircraft ground movement. The position requires meticulous record-keeping in aircraft forms and the Maintenance Information System (MIS), adherence to good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety protocols. Additional duties may include temporary duty and travel.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of the use of aircraft hand tools, special tools, and test equipment.
  • Working knowledge of aircraft safety requirements.
  • Know how to operate portable firefighting equipment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance (US Citizenship is required to obtain the clearance).
  • Ability to obtain & maintain a flightline driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of four years’ working knowledge of helicopter maintenance operations.
  • Recent experience on the UH-1N, Bell 212 or UH-1.
  • An FAA Airframe Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Support highly sensitive HQ USAF operational plans and safe air transportation for Cabinet Members, senior military leaders, and visiting foreign dignitaries.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance.
  • Perform repairs and modifications to aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
  • Maintain and repair aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions.
  • Apply comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blue prints or manufactures manuals.
  • Accomplish inspections including, but not limited to preflight, thru-flight, basic post-flight, and phase inspections.
  • Assist aircrew in preparation for flight.
  • Launch and recover aircraft as required.
  • Perform operational checks of all aircraft systems.
  • Maintain aircraft appearance and cleanliness.
  • Operate all associated ground support equipment.
  • Use hand tools, special tools, and fixtures applicable to aircraft.
  • Perform all tasks associated with ground movement of aircraft.
  • Annotate maintenance actions in aircraft records/forms.
  • Complete associated Maintenance Information System (MIS) entries.
  • Practice good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage awareness and prevention and safety at all times.
  • Perform other duties related to the occupational field as assigned to include temporary duty and travel.
