About The Position

The person filling this position will assist personnel in the Crops Testing Program with field trail work based out of Akron, CO. Responsibilities may include: taking trial field-notes with a team member throughout the growing season at various field sites (such as plant counts, plant height measurements, and other field notes), assist with plot maintenance (putting out stakes, hoeing weeds, etc), data entry, assist with planting of trials (driving tractor), and help with post-harvest grain sample analyses such as protein and seed size counts. The person would have an opportunity to assist with extension/outreach events such as wheat field days. The person(s) filling this position will assist personnel in the Crops Testing Program and the USDA-ARS Research Station with field trail work based out of Akron, CO. Responsibilities may include: taking trial field-notes with a team member throughout the growing season (such as plant counts, plant height measurements, and other field notes), assist with plot maintenance (putting out stakes, hoeing weeds, etc), data entry, and help with post-harvest grain sample analyses such as protein and seed size counts. The person would have an opportunity to assist with extension/outreach events such as wheat field days

Requirements

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of this position, which include: some heavy lifting (up to 40 lb), and will require manual dexterity, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and handling.
  • Ability to work in environmental conditions including exposure to weather and noise. Hazards include: working in proximity to moving, mechanical parts and exposure to chemicals used in weed/pest control and fertilization. Worker Protection Standard training will be provided at the beginning of the season.
  • Ability to accommodate Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) and to meet seasonal demands as well as varied work hours.
