About The Position

The Department of Agriculture performs a wide variety of functions that serve all Kentuckians every day. This position is located in Office of Agricultural Marketing, Plant Division, Market Development Branch. Agricultural Regulatory Specialist I duties will include: Learns to and performs routine inspections and regulatory duties requiring basic reviews on individual components, in relation to state and federal requirements administered by the Department of Agriculture, assists in conducting education and outreach activities, provides professional support to the program manager and division in developing, implementing and maintaining various complex programs, projects or activities; and performs other duties as required. Learns to conduct inspections for the Produce Safety Program ensuring the standards and regulations of the Produce Safety Rules are adhered to. These include inspecting agricultural water systems, soil amendments, worker training, health and hygiene practices, animal intrusion, cleaning and sanitization practices and reviewing records. Assists in education and outreach efforts relating to the Produce Safety Program and the Market Development Branch. Represents the Department at outreach events across the state and disseminates information pertaining to Produce Safety. Collect farm inventory data from growers and input data into the Produce Safety Program inventory database. Staff the annual Kentucky State Fair. Conducts compliance and enforcement actions as it pertains to the Produce Safety Rule. Review and report on inspection reports, inspection classifications and farm inventory database quarterly for FDA reporting. Assists supervisor in reporting and tracking budget to comply with state and federal requirements. Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned. Selected candidate will work to build customer relationships and provide excellent customer service. This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
  • Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
  • Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in agriculture, inspection, quality control, regulatory, chemical application or application or inspection of pesticides or restricted chemicals, or a related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
  • SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
