About The Position

The Affordable Compliance Specialist ensures that Summit Property Management’s affordable housing communities remain fully compliant with federal, state, and local regulations governing affordable housing programs. This includes oversight of LIHTC, HUD, PFC, HFC, and other affordable housing programs. The role supports property teams by reviewing resident files, maintaining program accuracy, preparing reports, and providing guidance on compliance procedures. This position works closely with the Community Managers, Regional Managers, and the Compliance Director to maintain audit readiness and uphold Summit’s commitment to integrity and resident care.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in affordable housing compliance (LIHTC, HUD, Section 8, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state affordable housing requirements and Fair Housing laws.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and processing certifications and resident files.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex compliance requirements in plain language.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and property management software (OneSite, Yardi, or equivalent).

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certification preferred (HCCP, COS, TCS, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve resident certifications/recertifications for accuracy, compliance, and completeness.
  • Support property teams with file corrections, compliance questions, and documentation standards.
  • Monitor compliance with all applicable affordable housing regulations, including LIHTC, HUD, PFC, HFC, HUD HOME, and BOND program rules.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to file review findings.
  • Track key compliance deadlines and ensure timely submission of reports to housing agencies and investors.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date records in property management systems.
  • Conduct quality control file reviews to identify and resolve potential compliance issues.
  • Conduct regular on-site visits and document all observations. Willing to travel including overnight.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance Director to develop and implement a file review process, property regulatory documents, training materials, and best-practice tools.
