Job Title : Aerospace Production Painter Reporting To: Supervisor, Process Work Schedule: Onsite – Torrance, CA Moog’s Military Aircraft Group has an immediate opening for a Production Painter on 3rd shift (10:00pm-6:30am). Reporting to our Process Supervisor. You will have an on-site work at our aerospace plant in Torrance, CA. Moog’s Military Aircraft Group is a global leader in designing primary and secondary flight control actuation systems (FCAS) for military aircraft. We design and integrate FCAS systems for cutting edge aircraft like the F-35 Lightning II and the V280 Valor next generation tiltrotor Aircraft. Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED preferred. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • 3 years or more of experience in a related industry
  • Conventional paint application experience
  • Basic/Intermediate computer skills
  • Technical knowledge and ability to read blueprints and drawings
  • FAA Safety Sensitive position; must meet FAA's drug and alcohol testing program requirements
  • Able to work on 3rd shift hours (10:00pm-6:30am)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with epoxy and polyurethane coatings preferred
  • Experience working in the aerospace or other regulated industry
  • 5 years or more of experience in a related industry

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces to be painted by sanding, non-abrasive blasting (plastic media), cleaning and masking.
  • Clean component parts to prepare for paint/coating.
  • Prepare paint and primer by mixing on shaker mixer.
  • Establish primer and paint to be used by reading work instructions.
  • Apply primers and paints usually by spray gun.
  • Paint a wide variety of component parts for military and industrial/commercial assemblies.
  • Clean and "mask" most parts before painting.
  • Determine quantity of paint, ratio of paint mix and viscosity.
  • Correctly interpret specification requirements to meet quality acceptance criteria.
  • Interface with production and methods engineering to establish fixture requirements and handling of paint application procedures.
  • Prepare test panels where required and perform inspections where required for thickness and adhesion characteristics.
  • Operate cup viscosity check, Dermitron paint thickness checking device, Grieve oven and a variety of paint spraying and cleaning equipment.
  • Log all activity identifying lot identification details of paint mix, pot life, temperature, humidity at time of painting, coat thickness and cure cycles.
  • Visually check work for surface imperfections.
  • Maintain good housekeeping, including filter changing.
  • Maintain inventory of all paints and solvents.
  • Unmask painted product and visually inspects surfaces to assure proper application has been achieved.
  • Verify paint thickness requirements, adhesion, texture, color, etc. meet requirements.
  • Clean and maintain equipment to assure it is ready for next job. (Paint equipment, blast equipment, etc.)
