About The Position

The Human Trafficking Protective Order Advocate serves as a staff member at will of Domestic Violence Intervention Services (DVIS). The Human Trafficking Protective Order Advocate will be primary located at the Family Safety Center in Downtown Tulsa. This position will assist survivors of human trafficking with protective orders and other court related matters. Primary job responsibilities include assisting human trafficking survivors in filing for protective orders, providing court advocacy, connecting survivors with community resources, and performing follow-up and clerical responsibilities. The Human Trafficking Protective Order Advocate will have enough flexibility to serve as a resource to other DVIS programs that encounter survivors of human trafficking.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelors in social work, Psychology, Criminal Justice or in a related field, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience with victims of crime.
  • Experience: Requires a minimum of 2 years’ experience with victims of crime and/or domestic violence; experience working with a nonprofit and with Human Trafficking are strongly preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proven computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, are necessary.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with social justice issues, specifically intimate partner, and gender-based domestic and sexual violence, and racial, class, gender, sexual orientation issues, and intervention/prevention services strongly preferred.
  • Requires dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion, excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks.
  • Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task, and changing environment, with frequent pressure related to meeting deadlines and scheduling requirements.

  • Schedule Availability: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional extended workdays.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license; COVID-19 Vaccination Card (exceptions may be made for health reasons, sincerely held religious beliefs, or historical trauma); current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with other DVIS’ departments in assistance with survivors of human trafficking.
  • Responsible for attending or leading trainings on human trafficking.
  • Responsible for attending community outreach regarding human trafficking.
  • Assist clients with protective order filings.
  • Conduct initial assessments for clients, matching their needs with appropriate services.
  • Utilize the Oklahoma Supreme Court Network for legal matters with client or harm doer.
  • Aid clients in completing emergency protective order paperwork and explain court procedures.
  • Collaborate with clients to assess risks and goals, incorporating this into Safety Plans.
  • Make referrals to community agencies as necessary.
  • Maintain client document files according to DVIS guidelines.
  • Compile daily statistics for reports to funding sources and courts.
  • Work both independently and in team settings.
  • Perform additional assigned duties.
  • Other assistance to support the overall goals of the department and organization.
  • Acts as a good steward of DVIS’s resources.
  • The nature of this work requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of DVIS and its clients.
  • This position will interact with managers at all levels and staff members across the organization, in addition to members of external organizations and the public.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate files for each client according to agency guidelines and current professional standards.
  • Attend meetings and training as requested by supervisor.
