With 200 staff across 27 locations, we deliver programs that make a lasting impact. As an Advocacy Intern, you’ll support EveryMind’s policy and legislative initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in research, analysis, and government relations. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about mental health policy, local politics, and the legislative process while making a meaningful impact. Schedule: Flexible, part-time (16-24 hours/week during business hours, M–F) Location: EveryMind Headquarters, Rockville, MD (with hybrid opportunities) You’ll work primarily with the Advocacy Department while also collaborating with program staff across the organization.

Requirements

  • Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student studying Public Policy, Political Science, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Strong research, writing, and critical analysis skills.
  • Interest in mental health policy, advocacy, and legislative processes.
  • Comfortable communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, including policymakers and community members.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with online legislative tracking tools a plus.
  • Reliable Transportation; will go to regular outreach events

Responsibilities

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research on current mental health policies and legislative proposals at local, state, and federal levels
  • Policy Development: Collaborate with team members to draft policy proposals, position papers, talking points, and testimony
  • Outreach and Relationships: Connect with county and state level legislators to support advocacy initiatives and build relationships with offices
  • Online Database Management: Support procedures to track legislation and communications with outside agencies
  • Frequent travel between sites
