About The Position

The LoboRESPECT Advocacy Center has a dynamic work environment that provides a variety of opportunities to assist and support students and to work collaboratively with campus partners. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work independently, be well organized, and creative. They will be empowered to utilize critical thinking and analytical skills to effectively provide support services to students and UNM community members seeking advocacy and navigation of UNM and community systems and resources. This position is for someone that enjoys working both independently and as a team member utilizing their analytical and problem-solving skills as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills. Under the close mentorship of other professional staff in the Advocacy Center, this position undertakes a range of on-going activities and assigned projects of varying levels of professional complexity within the LoboRESPECT Advocacy Center. In addition, this position will work as a member of the Dean of Students Office staff, directly working with colleagues both inside and outside of the office in the planning and implementation of advocacy, projects, and tasks. The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in: Independent work Building a network and contacts through various organizations to better provide support services Initiative to research and find solutions to problems brought forward Initiative to seek out process improvement or solutions to issues they observe Ability to communicate at various levels and scopes of work (dealing with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members) Flexibility in working in ambiguous situations or managing multiple priorities

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to make competent, informed determinations and judgments on a range of confidential and/or sensitive issues in the area of expertise.
  • Ability to assess and interpret individual student needs and to make appropriate referrals.
  • Knowledge of Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to use Adobe Acrobat Pro and similar applications.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate policy and procedural issues to students and families.
  • Ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, and races to successfully deliver culturally responsive services.
  • High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities.
  • Previous experience working in an office setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Trauma, Suicide Prevention, Hate/Bias, By-stander Intervention, Title IX, Clery Act processes in higher education institutions.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Familiar with survey research.
  • Knowledge of college-level student affairs and student services principles and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates general intake services for "Student Advocacy" including absence notifications, domestic partnership privileges, military withdrawals, short term disabilities, student death notices, and semester withdrawals.
  • Serves as a central point of contact between students, faculty, staff, other departments, and/or external constituencies on day-to-day programmatic, operational, and administrative matters related to the LoboRESPECT Advocacy Center; assists with trainings for students, special projects, and/or general problem resolution associated with intake services in the Dean of Students Office via the LoboRESPECT Advocacy Center.
  • Provides confidential support for students who experience sexual misconduct and provides general support for students in crisis.
  • Works closely with all center staff to promote/market the center including promotional materials, educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate to the program.
  • Directs maintenance of website(s)/communication to external community for LRAC.
  • Maintains LRAC intake records and prepares reports in relation to data for CLERY reporting and other mandatory reporting data.
  • May assist with supervision of student employees; builds work schedules for student support and work study employees.
  • May contribute to the development of funding proposals for the LoboRESPECT Advocacy Center and sexual misconduct programs.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
