Riverside Medical Group is currently seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for the night shift labor pool position. Join this growing team of surgeons and APP's within an established Cardiothoracic Surgery program. Our practice is currently expanding in scope to include minimally invasive and robotic cardiac and thoracic procedures. We are performing approximately 250 cases/year. Job Requirements: Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery as a board-certified, licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. This is a night shift position, 3/12-hour shifts/week. Under the direction of a Cardiothoracic Surgeon and within established departmental practice guidelines, this Advanced Practitioner is responsible for performing a variety of duties. The Cardiothoracic Surgery APP will provide comprehensive management of critically ill cardiothoracic surgery patients in the following manner: Provide care for critically ill, complex cardiac surgery patients in an 18 bed SICU by functioning in an autonomous manner, in collaboration with the attending surgeon. Conduct complex, standardized patient care procedures which require experience and specialized training. Perform relevant patient evaluations, assessments, and appropriate treatment in an efficient manner. Maintain communication with attending surgeon regarding pertinent updates and need for escalation of care. Order appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, and radiographic tests and interpret the results. Respond to, coordinate, and provide management of emergent life-threatening situations. Possess surgical expertise/training necessary to perform emergent re-sternotomy (reopening of the sternum at the bedside), cardiac massage, evacuation of hematoma, and achieve temporary hemostasis. Demonstrate proficiency in invasive procedures such as chest tube insertion, placement of central venous, dialysis, and Swan Ganz catheters, placement of arterial lines, DC Cardioversion. Exhibit extensive knowledge of vasoactive/inotropic drugs, ventilator management, pacemaker management. Experience with ECMO and Impella devices is desirable. Expedite and execute transfer of Cardiothoracic ICU patients to stepdown units. Perform routine rounds on stepdown patients. Respond to potential need for escalation of care. Carry CTS service phone/pager, perform consults in a timely manner. Serve as a mentor for nursing staff across the Cardiac Surgery service line, providing consistent education of newer, as well as novice staff nurses, helping them expand their knowledge base of Cardiac Surgery pre and postsurgical nursing care. Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Board-certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
  • Current ACLS/BLS certification
  • Current DEA license
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Collaborative attitude
  • Strong experience with first and second assist with all types of cardiothoracic surgical procedures (minimum 4 years)
  • Endoscopic Vein Harvest experience and proficiency required -Maquet system
  • Documentation in electronic health record - Epic
  • Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, general medicine, pulmonary, emergency, and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery, therapeutics including pharmacology, counseling techniques and interpersonal dynamics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ECMO and Impella devices is desirable.
  • First/Second Assist OR skills desirable.
  • Endoscopic Radial Artery Harvest preferred.

  • Perform central line, arterial line and chest tube placement and removal.
  • Perform necessary bedside procedures as directed and supervised by attending physician including removal of pacing wires, intra-aortic balloon pumps and point of care ultrasound/echocardiogram.
  • Perform physical examinations and assessments of health with a knowledge of normal versus abnormal findings.
  • Develop disease specific patient care plans.
  • Order, interpret lab and radiologic diagnostic studies.
  • Prescribe appropriate medications/dosing ranges.
